Remember this one?

Review of U.S. Park Police Actions at Lafayette Park
The evidence we obtained did not support a finding that the USPP [U.S. Park Police] cleared the park to allow the President to survey the damage and walk to St. John’s Church. Instead, the evidence we reviewed showed that the USPP cleared the park to allow the contractor to safely install the antiscale fencing in response to destruction of property and injury to officers occurring on May 30 and 31. Further, the evidence showed that the USPP did not know about the President’s potential movement until mid- to late afternoon on June 1—hours after it had begun developing its operational plan and the fencing contractor had arrived in the park.

So another far left Trump-hating conspiracy lie bites the dust. Protesters were never cleared out to make way for the President (as was argued ad nauseum by the left), but rather protesters were legally cleared out for entirely different reasons.

Keep in mind that this was all Federal property and if protesters refused to heed the authorities call to leave, then they would be guilty of trespassing on Federal land. Of course, we now know that trespassing on Federal land is a crime that will cause the FBI to hunt you down, bring you back to a D.C. jail cell, and hold you without bail. They might even hold you in isolation.

I DON’T TAKE Tucker Carlson seriously. No one should. Carlson’s own employer, Fox News, even says as much about its primetime host.

So I was amused last week when a Google News alert told me that Carlson mentioned my name in his June 15 monologue. “Trevor Aaronson’s book ‘The Terror Factory’ analyzed every terrorism prosecution from 2001 to 2013,” Carlson told his viewers. “Aaronson found that at least 50 defendants were on trial because of behavior that the FBI had not only encouraged, but enabled. FBI agents were essentially the plotters in these crimes. They made the crimes crimes.”

I’ve covered the FBI for more than a decade, and a lot of my reporting has focused on the FBI’s use of informants and sting operations in the so-called war on terror. During the last two decades, the Justice Department has prosecuted 350 defendants on international terrorism charges that emerged from FBI stings. In many of these stings, informants or undercover agents provided all the money and weapons for terrorist plots, and sometimes even the ideas — raising significant questions about whether any of these people would have committed the crimes were it not for the FBI’s encouragement. Many targets of these FBI stings were mentally ill or otherwise easily manipulated.

But Carlson didn’t mention my book because he’s suddenly concerned about the entrapment of Muslims in aggressive FBI stings. He used it to support a theory for which he has zero evidence: that the January 6 storming of the U.S. Capitol was some sort of FBI-engineered plot.

Join Our NewsletterOriginal reporting. Fearless journalism. Delivered to you.

I’m in

Carlson’s claim fits an existing and well-established argument: that the FBI creates crimes through aggressive stings where no crimes would otherwise exist. But in the specific case of the insurrection at the Capitol, there is no evidence I’ve seen to support the claim. In fact, the evidence Carlson and others have presented is based on a misunderstanding of the terms that the FBI and the Justice Department use in court records.

Carlson’s theory is based on a story published by Revolver News, a site that refers to Chicago as “Chicongo” and which the Fox News host described with a straight face as “one of the last honest outlets on the internet.” The Revolver story focused, in part, on a 65-year-old Oath Keeper named Thomas Caldwell, who was indicted for his alleged role in the Capitol riot. In Caldwell’s court records, the FBI identified two unindicted co-conspirators — termed Person Two and Person Three in the records — as having assisted Caldwell. According to the indictment, Caldwell wrote to another man who was indicted, Donovan Crowl, about how he was working with Person Two and Person Three around the time of the Capitol riot:

White House: 70% of Americans 30 or older get COVID-19 shot
— More than 70% of Americans age 30 or older have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, the White House said, even as President Joe Biden is set to fall short of reaching his goal of giving a shot to the same percentage of ALL American adults by Independence Day.

The Biden administration is releasing the new data Tuesday showing it expects to reach 70% of Americans age 27 or older with at least one shot by the July 4 holiday.

A White House official said it is now redoubling its focus on vaccinating younger Americans age 18-26, who have proved to be least likely to get a vaccine when it's available for them.

The White House said meeting Biden's vaccination goal is less important than the pace of the nation's reopening, which is exceeding even its own internal projections as the overwhelming majority of the nation's most vulnerable people are fully vaccinated and cases and deaths are at their lowest rates since the earliest days of the pandemic.

Still, the nationwide rate of new vaccinations has dropped off precipitously over the past month even as shots have become more available.

BECAUSE REPUBLICANS RESIST VACCINATIONS EVEN THOUGH TRUMP TOLD THEM HE GOT THEM TO THEM AT WARP SPEED.

The right wing nutcase websites make me laugh out loud

Former President Donald Trump denied that he ever admitted defeat in last year’s presidential election, telling David Brody on Just the News' “Water Cooler” that if former Vice President Mike Pence had sent disputed election results back to state legislatures for review the nation "might very well have a different president right now."

"No, I never admitted defeat," Trump said, adding that he has "not conceded.”

Last week during an interview with Sean Hannity, Trump said "shockingly, we were supposed to win easily at 64 million votes and we got 75 million votes and we didn't win, but let's see what happens on that."

Trump also refused to rule out that he will be reinstated as president this August, saying "I'm not going to comment on that. I'm going to just see what happens. If the election was fraudulent, people are gonna have to make up their own minds. It's not going to be up to me. It's going to be up to the public. It's going to be up to, perhaps politicians, I don't think there's ever been a case like this where hundreds of thousands of votes will be found.”

Commenting on reports that he would become speaker of the House next year, Trump said, “I have seen talk about that, but it's nothing that I've ever considered," before once again pivoting to last year’s presidential election.

"The election was a horrible, horrible thing for our country,” he said. “You know we were always known for free and fair elections. Well, it turns out they weren't free and they weren't fair, and the world is watching.”

When asked about Pence, Trump said, “I've always liked Mike, and I'm very disappointed that he didn't send it back to the legislatures… I felt he had the right to send it back, and he should've sent it back... I think you would have found that you might very well have a different president right now had he sent ’em back."

Trump also remarked during the interview on Supreme Court Justices Amy Coney Barrett and Brett Kavanaugh ruling with the liberal justices recently in favor of saving Obamacare, saying he was “very disappointed, I fought very hard for them. But I was very disappointed with a number of their rulings.”

Concerning speculation that he would run for president again in 2024, Trump remained evasive, saying “Our country is in crisis. And what's happening with other countries is they're eating our lunch. They're destroying our country at the border and elsewhere. So stay tuned. Let's see what happens.”

WASHINGTON (AP) — House Speaker Nancy Pelosi told Democratic colleagues on Tuesday that she is creating a new committee to investigate the Jan. 6 insurrection at the Capitol, according to a person familiar with her remarks.

Pelosi made the announcement at a private leadership meeting and did not give additional details. The person spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss the private remarks.

The new committee comes after Senate Republicans blocked legislation that would form a bipartisan, independent commission to investigate the attack by former President Donald Trump's supporters. Pelosi said earlier this month that the House would step up investigations of the riot, in which a violent mob overran police, broke into the building and hunted for lawmakers to try to stop the certification of Joe Biden's election victory.

The new select committee would put majority Democrats in charge of the investigation. More than three dozen Republicans in the House and seven Senate Republicans said they wanted to avoid a partisan probe, and they supported the legislation to form a commission, which would have been modeled after a similar panel that investigated the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

It’s time to move on.

The problem is, Republicans have nothing to move on to. They’re against everything, but for nothing. What was once correctly known as “the party of ideas” has completely run out of ideas. Even when they were in control of the House and Senate, Republicans did not come up with one single plan to deal with any of the major challenges facing this country: not on health care, climate change, economic injustice, cybersecurity or anything else.

So what’s left? Playing the race card! What used to be the Republican Party — now the “Trump Party” — has morphed from enlightening Americans with big ideas to scaring them with two big lies, both of them inherently racist: that the 2020 election was stolen from Donald Trump and that acknowledging America’s history of racism is fundamentally anti-American.

Embracing Donald Trump’s big lie that he, not Joe Biden , won the election, Republican governors and state legislators have embarked on the worst voter suppression spree since the Jim Crow era. According to the Brennan Center for Justice, over 350 bills have been introduced in 48 states to make it harder for people to vote — by limiting early voting, closing many polling places, and banning or restricting vote-by-mail: measures aimed especially at people of color, who are likely Democratic votes.

At the same time, fanning white Americans’ fears of losing their hold on power, Republican legislators have introduced bills in 22 states banning the teaching of so-called critical race theory, or CRT, in public schools. While nobody, it seems, can define CRT, it generally means teachers can never discuss the history of racism in this country. Which means never telling children the truth: about slavery, segregation, Jim Crow, lynches, Frederick Douglass, Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King Jr., Juneteenth or John Lewis . And certainly not about George Floyd.

How pathetic, and how perverse. Teaching children about America’s history of racism doesn’t show how bad we are, it shows how much better we are, how much progress we’ve made — and how far we still have to go.

Denying the truth about the 2020 election and denying the reality of racism in America. If that’s the best the Republican Party has to offer today, it might as well turn out the lights, lock the door and close up shop.

”Appearing on the same panel as Enlow was Adianis Morales-Robles, a right-wing pastor and GOP activist, who used her time to personally thank “prophetess” Kat Kerr, who was also in attendance.

Former Vice President Mike Pence spoke at the conference, where he was met with boos and called a “traitor” for failing to steal the 2020 election for former President Donald Trump.

Sandy Rios thinks he deserved it: “When [Pence] could have done something, he chose to do nothing, and that was very disappointing.

”Finally, David Lane warns that “secularism is recognized by the dark stain it leaves behind in the culture and daily life. This stain becomes darker and darker with the sexualization of America’s youth, the mindless vacuity of public schooling and the immoral grooming of junior high 13- and 14-year-old girls being taught the many actions of physical sex. If we won’t put a stop to this, the stain will soon become indelible.”

Some GOP bills, for example, would accept gun owner licenses — but not college IDs — as valid IDs for voting purposes.

Manchin’s proposal, in contrast, would allow a broad range of documents, including items such as utility bills, to serve as identification for voting purposes. It would also make Election Day a federal holiday and ban partisan gerrymandering, among other things. The plan was immediately rejected by Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and other Republicans.

There is little question that leading Democrats’ tone has shifted on the voter ID issue. Abrams and others have long assailed ID rules as a means of disenfranchising voters of color and other disadvantaged groups, since they are least likely to have photo IDs or other government-issued documents. They also argue that there is no evidence that ID requirements prevent election fraud.

The ACLU has called voter ID requirements part of an ongoing strategy to roll back decades of progress on voting rights. Activists have lumped the most onerous identification requirements with bills that make it a felony to give water to people in long voting lines or shuttle people from mostly Black churches to polling places.

But such arguments have rarely resonated with the larger public. Democrats have long struggled to rebut GOP arguments that if an ID is required to drive a car, drink alcohol or undertake other daily activities, doing the same for voting is hardly an egregious rights violation.

The black churches restrictions are blatantly racist.

If there is any noticeable surge at all in coronavirus cases later this year, or in the years to come, there will be enormous pressure from the left to bring back tyrannical lockdowns. Conservatives categorically must never allow this to happen. The most destructive event of 2020 was not the coronavirus. COVID-19 isn’t what kept you from visiting your parents. COVID-19 didn’t force your children to stay locked up at home for a year for no reason. COVID-19 didn’t wreck half of your town’s small businesses. COVID-19 didn’t strip you of your freedom of speech. It was the enforcement of ruling class lockdowns that did that.

COVID-19 shows that America’s “expert” class is fundamentally broken. Simple common-sense policies, like those enacted by South Dakota, proved vastly better than the insane theater foisted on the country by “public health experts.” Lockdowns weren’t the product of a bad cost-benefit analysis. They were the product of a ruling class that never made a cost-benefit analysis at all.

Well, come to think of it, maybe they did a cost benefit analysis after all:

A new report from Oxfam found that the world’s billionaires didn’t just recoup losses from the coronavirus: Their collective wealth increase could pay for the entire world’s vaccinations and prevent anyone from falling into poverty.

“The increase in the wealth of the 10 richest billionaires since the crisis began is more than enough to prevent anyone on Earth from falling into poverty because of the virus and to pay for a COVID-19 vaccine for all,” the report said.

Worldwide, billionaires saw their wealth increase by $3.9 trillion between March 18 and December 31, 2020. While billionaires saw initial losses at the start of the pandemic — like millions of others around the globe — the report says they had recovered all losses by November. [Business Insider]

For a year, America was ruled by tyrants who chose policies based on panic, a desire to look tough, or a simple herd mentality. When politics dictated that the lockdowns weren’t useful (such as when they would prevent people from protesting en masse after the death of George Floyd), the lockdowns vanished.

Now, the same corrupt ruling class that oversaw the hideously evil lockdowns wants the authority to remake criminal justice, education, the economy, America itself. They need to be stripped of their power entirely.

But even if GOP elected officials are too cowardly to act, we as individuals can decline to submit to this demonstration of a holiday as moral blackmail. We cannot live in an America where we have one standard for African Americans and another standard for everyone else. That is not civil rights, it is the opposite of civil rights. It is not a celebration of the end of slavery, it is the creation of a new kind of slavery.

We must not live by the Left’s lies. If our politicians will not lead, we must lead ourselves and hope they follow. We must be straightforward in calling the current incarnation of the national holiday of Juneteenth what it is—a cynical and immoral attempt to divide Americans rather than unite them.

We must reject, without shame, apology, or equivocation, George Floyd’s critical race holiday.

It was a good day for the insurrectionists.
Reublicans voted in lockstep on Tuesday to block the landmark voting rights bill, in effect embracing the disenfranchisement of non-White voters under the “big lie” justification that widespread voter fraud denied Donald Trump reelection.
Even as they did so, Senate Republicans also embraced the latest Fox-News-generated conspiracy theory: that a shadowy network of America haters — suspiciously similar to antifa, BLM and the deep state — had taken over the Biden administration with a nefarious ideology known as critical race theory, or “critical theory.”
itical theory is, in fact, very real,” Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.), the man who pumped his fist in solidarity with the people who attacked the Capitol on Jan. 6, declared on the Senate floor on Tuesday. “It is very influential. And it appears to have become the animating ideology of this administration.”

In short, Hawley explained, the Biden administration hates America. “President Biden is nominating for federal office individuals who do not share a view of America as a good and decent place,” Hawley announced. His nominees instead “believe that this is a country founded in racism and shot through with corruption.”
So what is this “animating ideology” of the Biden administration, pray tell?
It holds that “the United States is rotten to its core,” Hawley alleged. “In our American flag, they see propaganda, and in our family businesses, they see white supremacy.” Those adhering to this animating ideology of the Biden administration, he elaborated, “allow no room for merit, for experience, or for grace in our life together. They pit Whiteness and Blackness against each other in a manner that reduces every American, no matter their character or creed, to their racial identity alone.”

Retailer Ikea is under fire after one of its stores reportedly sent out a lunch menu for a Juneteenth celebration that is said to have featured certain dishes that perpetuate racial stereotypes.

An Atlanta Ikea store sent a letter to employees last week to inform them of the celebration, which allegedly included a note about a "special menu" including items like fried chicken, watermelon and other foods with ties to racism, as reported by local CBS affiliate.

The meal was intended as an internal celebration for store workers, not for customers.

A spokesperson for Ikea told FOX Business that to honor the day, which has been celebrated at the Ikea Atlanta store for the past four years, a lunch menu was created with the "best of intentions," including recommendations from Black coworkers.

"We value our co-workers’ voices and changed the menu after receiving feedback that the foods that were selected are not reflective of the deeply meaningful traditional foods historically served as part of Juneteenth celebrations," a spokesperson for the company said. "We got it wrong and we sincerely apologize. We are committed to educating ourselves and putting a process in place that will allow us to thoughtfully honor Juneteenth in the future."

Trump Hoped John Bolton Would Get COVID
June 23, 2021 at 7:54 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment
Former President Donald Trump said that he hoped the coronavirus would take out his former national security adviser, John Bolton, who had just written an explosive tell-all about his time in the White House, Axios reports.

Here’s the passage from the new book, Nightmare Scenario:
Trump had tried to joke about the virus for months, sometimes even mocking people who had become ill… At one meeting several months before Trump got sick, NEC director Larry Kudlow had stifled a cough. The room had frozen… Trump had waved his hands in front of his face, as if to jokingly ward off any flying virus particles, and then cracked a smile. “I was just kidding,” he’d said. “Larry will never get COVID. He will defeat it with his optimism.” … “John Bolton,” he had said … “Hopefully COVID takes out John.”

Home Prices Skyrocket

“U.S. home prices in May experienced their biggest annual increase in more than two decades, as a shortage of properties and low borrowing rates fueled demand,” the Wall Street Journal reports.

Manchin Suggests He’s Open to New Reconciliation Bill
June 23, 2021 at 7:39 am EDT By Taegan Goddard 13 Comments
“A key moderate Democratic senator opened the door Tuesday to investing in President Joe Biden’s ‘human infrastructure’ proposals and unwinding some of the Republican tax cuts of 2017,” NBC News reports.

“Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV), who is working to ink a bipartisan deal to fund physical infrastructure, expressed openness to a separate filibuster-proof package to make economic investments, although he said the size and scope have yet to be determined.”

Said Manchin: “Republicans have drawn a line in the sand on not changing anything, and I thought the 2017 tax bill was a very unfair bill, and weighted to a side that basically did not benefit the average American. So I voted against it. I think there are some adjustments that need to be made.”

T. Goddard comments:
Considering his state voted for Donald Trump by 39 percentage points in 2020, it’s actually amazing Manchin sides with Democrats as much as he does.

Democrats Have No Backup Plan for Voting Rights
June 23, 2021 at 6:55 am EDT By Taegan Goddard 21 Comments
Politico:
“After months of build-up, Democrats are boxed in on their party’s signature election reform plan. And there’s no apparent escape route. Senate Republicans blocked Democrats’ sweeping ethics and elections legislation on Tuesday, a filibuster that many in President Joe Biden’s party hoped would turbocharge the demise of the chamber’s 60-vote threshold for most bills. But Democratic moderates’ support of the filibuster has only hardened in recent days.

“It gets worse for Biden’s party: Now that the GOP has rejected debating the legislation that would overhaul federal elections, Democrats are without a new strategy to show party activists some momentum before the 2022 midterms. At the moment, the party doesn’t have a backup plan on elections and Democratic senators acknowledged their internal maneuvering over the filibuster has only begun after months of dominating their time in control of Washington.”

Infrastructure Compromise Stuck on How to Pay for It
June 23, 2021 at 6:39 am EDT By Taegan Goddard 14 Comments
Playbook:
“Forgive us if it seems like Groundhog Day around here, but how to pay for $579 billion in new spending is still the big problem.”

“On the one hand, the two sides were reported to be drifting farther apart. John Thune, the No. 2 Senate Republican, sent reporters into a tizzy when he said the White House had retreated on backing an infrastructure bank, previously a bipartisan idea.

“But the flurry of meetings — coming a day after Biden met separately with Sinema and Sen. Joe Manchin — also suggests a deep level of engagement and eagerness from both sides. It’s no surprise there were some hiccups. Tuesday was the first time the group of 10 senators met with the White House team.”

Sen. Mitt Romney (R-UT) was more optimistic to Bloomberg:
“There are a number of pay-fors that we’ve been able to add to the list and I think we’re going to get there.”

Biden Breaks from Agenda to Focus on Crime
June 23, 2021 at 6:37 am EDT By Taegan Goddard 2 Comments
Politico:
“On Tuesday, the Justice Department announced five strike forces that will target the flow of illegal firearms into places like New York City, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Washington, D.C. While Chicago, for example, has its own gun control measures in place, it has historically contended with the illegal trafficking of weapons from nearby Indiana, as well as southern states.

“The DOJ announcement was in advance of Biden’s speech Wednesday on the rise of shootings and other violent crime. The president is expected to unveil additional measures targeting guns and crime, including giving cities the ability to tap funding from his American Rescue Plan to help combat violence, imposing a new zero tolerance policy toward gun dealers who break the law, and investing in community policing, among other initiatives.”

USA Today:
As gun violence soars, Biden to target rogue dealers, illegal firearms in new crime strategy.

Democratic Angst Grows as Filibuster Blocks Agenda

Failure of Bill May Now Spawn More Plausible Options
June 23, 2021 at 5:51 am EDT By Taegan Goddard 15 Comments
“The demise of the For the People Act — the far-reaching voting rights bill that Republicans blocked in the Senate on Tuesday — will come as a crushing blow to progressives and reformers, who have portrayed the law as an essential tool for saving democracy,” the New York Times reports.

“But it was a flawed bill that had little chance of testing the limits of what if anything is still possible in Washington. Voting rights activists and Democratic lawmakers may even find that the collapse of this law opens up more plausible, if still highly unlikely, paths to reform.”

And that’s not all! The Biden administration’s animating ideology holds “that subjects like mathematics are inherently racist, that the Christian faith is oppressive” and “that the nuclear family perpetuates racism.” Looking straight into the TV camera above the Senate floor, Hawley said that Biden’s animating ideology tells children that “your dreams” are “unjust” and that “your family” are “oppressors.”
Hawley offered zero evidence for his claims, beyond Biden reinstating racial sensitivity training and his nomination of an Indian American woman, Kiran Ahuja, to run the Office of Personnel Management. Hawley alleged that critical race theory “appears to be her fundamental ideology.” This wild claim is based on a Boston University professor’s lecture on “antiracism” at the charity she ran, and her linking to an article of his claiming Trump’s election was an example of white supremacy.
But Republicans rallied behind Hawley’s demagoguery anyway. They voted unanimously Tuesday against her confirmation, requiring Vice President Harris to break the Senate’s tie. Ahuja was the latest of several non-White Biden nominees to run into Republican opposition.
Critical race theory (at its core, the belief that racism in America is systemic) had been around for decades in academic circles without attracting much attention — until Fox News took it up last summer. As The Post’s Laura Meckler and Josh Dawsey report, a Fox News guest, Christopher Rufo, declared that critical race theory had “pervaded every institution in the federal government” — and Trump and his allies took it from there. They’ve redefined the obscure theory to include, as Rufo put it, “all of the various cultural insanities” and they’ve made it their latest front in the culture wars.

Giving up on the battle against Voter ID is a major setback for Dems, one of the biggest tactical retreats they've been forced to make in years. It would be a LOT worse if they couldn't count on the media to scrub all the crazy bullshit lies and smears they've used against it.

But they've concluded sticking to their agenda would be worse, because American support for Voter ID is so stubbornly high. It risks merging with trends like the backlash against CRT to become a grassroots rebellion the GOP could capitalize on, especially leaders like DeSantis.

It has to be making Dems a little nervous that the GOP is developing leaders who aren't afraid to use populism effectively - who can have a field day pointing out that Dems bitterly oppose policies with 60-80% public support despite all-out Dem media war against them.

A right wing website is advocating a three nation solution.

Federalism as never before

The more fine-grained the maps of the American people’s electoral choices, as well as of their opinions about the most important things, the clearer it is that its “blue”—Democrat, Woke, etc. —parts are concentrated not simply in California, New York, Illinois, etc., or even in the 16.7 percent of U.S. counties the Democratic Party carried in the 2020 election. Within those states, counties, and even within their cities (e.g., Los Angeles, Atlanta, and Austin) there are substantial parts the residents of which vote for and prefer differently. By the same token there are parts, even of Wyoming, as Woke as Venice, California.

This intermingling is more fraught with horrid consequences than the 19th century division between Northerners and Southerners. Both of those sides, Lincoln reminded them, “prayed to the same God.” Their family lives, their personal habits and preferences, were identical. All revered America’s founders, albeit somewhat differently. None doubted the others’ probity. Today, by contrast, America’s Woke side regards worship of the God of the Bible as the source of the White man’s rapacity, racism, and oppression. It regards the very words male and female, mother and father as poisonous, and rejects reason itself as the arbiter of argument in favor of identity. Through education, it enforces relativism regarding mathematics—never mind sexuality—and wholly denigrates anything that America has been other than the enabler of themselves.

America’s founders did not intend for the U.S. government to have the power to enforce unanimity of mores among a diverse population. The very notion of peaceful self-government has ever implied small units within which virtual unanimity about the most important things would reign. The Civil War happened when the South sought to spread its peculiar institution nationwide. The Supreme Court’s Dred Scott decision seconded that nationalization and turbocharged Northern abolitionism. The ensuing war abolished slavery in the most divisive of ways and fed a perpetual escalating contest about whose mores shall be imposed on whom. The Supreme Court’s nationalization of abortion in its Roe v. Wade decision did to America roughly what Dred Scott had done and was followed by others that further fired the strife. Now every national election, every judicial nomination, is about who shall kill whom under what circumstances, who shall go into whose bathroom, who are the heroes and who the villains, and which children shall and shall not be filled with alien hormones.

The good news is that the U.S government has less credit, and hence less real power to decide such matters than ever before. Alas, it also has lost the capacity to prevent opposite sides of these bellicose questions from taking their preferences into their own hands. The United States of America is coming apart. The only question is whether it finishes doing so to avoid violence, or as a result thereof.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

Republican Americans’ success in the aforementioned defensive battles should convince the oligarchy to limit its absolute power to the people who want to live under it. The persons whom the republicans choose in successive elections will have substantial power to define the terms by which America’s tribes relate to one another. Maximum latitude for each and minimum interference with the other should be the guidelines. Affording maximum autonomy to each is essential to ensure peace among people who identify with civilizations at odds with each other.

The U.S. Constitution’s letter gives nearly all powers of government to the states, and reserves unmentioned ones “to the people.” Surely that includes powers over bathrooms, marriages, who competes with whom in sports, etc. It certainly includes power over elections. Customarily, we have regarded counties and cities purely as legal creatures of the states, enjoying only such autonomy as the states may concede. Though a federal statute granting broad autonomy over such matters to the states’ constituted sub-units and giving enough likeminded people the power to form units that enjoy such autonomy would run against more than a century of court decisions, it finds no barrier in the Constitution’s letter. Congress and the president can do this.

The alternative is already unfolding: people on all sides have learned that “stop me if you can” is today’s operative constitutional law. Pretty soon, everywhere will be a sanctuary for something. The willful and well-organized obey what they will and disobey what they dare. Better for all if the separation follows the law of logic rather than force.

What then?

Geographically, republican America will reign from shore to shore, from Canada to Mexico. Its birth rate, its educational system’s products, its economic vigor, its social stability, its degree of happiness will reflect how fit today’s republicans are for self-government. We cannot foresee and should not speculate how their successes and failures might affect Woke America.
