Guilty states not turning over voter data?

As most people have already heard, the Federal Government is doing a study on vote fraud

Minnesota, which had hundreds of convictions for voter fraud following the Franken/Coleman recount fiasco, is one of the states refusing to turn over their voter roll information to the Federal Government.

Move along... nothing here to see!

Of course, Minnesota is still one of the hold out states who refuse to accept that 99% of legitimate voters have ID and are more than willing to provide it. We are allowed to walk in, tell the person who we are, sign our name, and then go vote.

This, of course, saves me the 15 seconds it otherwise would require for me to pull out my driver's licence and present it.

We also allow for same day voter registration, even for people without ID. All you need is someone living in the district to "vouch" for you and you can register and vote on the spot, without identification.  Now this has led to things like buses full of Wisconsin college students walking into a Minnesota polling station with one person willing to vouch for the whole lot.

Now our state government has suggested that the state law only requires them to turn it over for "political purposes" and "law enforcement". In other words, if the Democratic Party or Republican Party wants to purchase our voter roll information to use as a means to pin us down on targeted political advertising and other spam, that's completely acceptable.

But if someone actually wants to do a real bona-fide investigation based on actual voter data, then somehow our Governor's office had determined that this is somehow a violation of the rights of Minnesotans.

What it really tells me, is that our Democratic Governor and Secretary of State are afraid of what this particular investigation might turn up.

States controlled by both Republicans and Democrats are refusing to turn over those records. We want the name social security number voting record and party line alignment with everybody in the goddamn country and a database why. Now your president has also not so subtly has advocated the use of violence against journalists.

If President Obama and August of 2016 had requested that all states send their voting logs to the White House. The screaming would be rigged rigged rigged rigged rigged. Every single one of you would have said the same thing. An effort to rig the election. Vote fraud is very rare in this country as well documented no matter what CH says. We argue this for years ago and guess what he was wrong then and I'm right now. There is no proof of widespread vote fraud in Minnesota or anywhere else in this country. Trump is claiming over 3 million people voted for Clinton illegally. There is absolutely no proof of any kind to support that allegation. Yet you believe it even though there is no proof at all none. Outside of the right-wing nutcase maybe Alex Jones can tell you as he sees down from Mars.

http://www.startribune.com/voter-fraud-stuffing-ballot-boxes-or-the-stuff-of-myth/176195981/...

But Freeman said that once his office started investigating, they found many names submitted by McGrath from the 2008 election to be incorrect. Ultimately, the county charged 38 felons who voted before their rights were restored -- less than 1/100th of 1 percent of the roughly 665,000 votes cast.

Freeman said he believes most of those convictions were the result of mistakes, not attempts to influence the election.

According to One Source I have this information. I cannot verify its truthfulness or not could be interesting but it doesn't mean that there was a lot of people voting illegally we don't know that
in Minnesota -it turns out that ignorance of the law is a legitimate excuse. In order to convict someone, you have to prove that they understood that they were not supposed to vote. All someone has to do is claim they were not aware that they were voting illegally, and the case is dropped.

My source did not provide law section that said that. I find it hard to believe that I personally don't have to admit committing a crime to even get charged it doesn't make sense to me. But then I'm just an ignorant alky you know how that is. 5 years 1 month and 7 days.

Something that may come out of this debate on Obamacare versus TrumpCare versus whatever is we may see something nobody really expected to see before. Both Republicans and Democrats agree that we need to have government involvement in healthcare system. Something has to be done. The argument the government should stay completely out of healthcare is no longer in effect.

The only way to get the risk pool large enough to keep the cost to individuals to a reasonable level is a single-payer system. This is simple fact is the larger pool the lower the overall cost to individuals.

The United States has been innovative in many different ways I would think that they should be able to figure out a way to do this without creating this great big government bureaucracy no one can control the cost.

On Thursday I will be transported to UCLA for the final check up. Many concerns they have to handled, as much you have a liver transplant medication the things you exposed to what you can eat when you cannot eat all very complex things.

For the next 4 to 8 weeks I will be returning to UCLA on every Thursday for checkups on what's going on. The doctors and therapists in another's transplant patients rarely seen someone come along as quickly as I have. I spoke with a guy who had surgery 14 years ago . He said life is normal once you have fully recovered.

By November 1 I should be back to normal, except for the need to take the medications. I will have to take the anti-rejection drugs rest of my life.

K'putz lies again. My covered with Kaiser Permanente is under Medicare. It is not a private insurance beyond that.

Second for the Mensa boy. A single-payer system would not stop me from getting a liver transplant. Is single-payer based on basically the expansion of Medicare with other changes would work would cover everything I got right now and everything I had in the past. The main reason I support in the single-payer as it makes the insured pool as large as possible. That makes the cost per person much more reasonable and is broken up system we have now. When the risk is spread out over at the entire population the per person cost go down. Some of the single-payer systems are not working very well more expensive. Sometime people have to travel outside the country to get coverage that is true. But I'm saying the United States is very capable of making a single-payer system that would work. If they took off the donkey hats and the Elephant ass and get to work they might be able to figure something out we have been able to do that in the past in the last 20 years the doors are closed to compromise for many different reasons I'm not going to say why both sides are guilty. But we have to insist they have to fix the system and make it actually work. Trumpcare is not a repair it's a disaster it will lay 22 million more people uninsured than they were before. We can do better than that we can cover everyone I mean everyone that legally here as a citizen I don't have a problem with that no problem. I don't want the system open to anybody that can come from all over the world and and get the reduced cost no they have to pay the actual their cost not that because they don't pay taxes on it.

Many people have no cost at all or small place and covered. But in my case because of an inherited condition as costing a lot more money than I put into it that's the way the system works no matter what way it works. You're supposed to be smart you claim to be mr. GED but look at what you talking about you don't seem to really have a comprehensive understanding of how Medicare or any other single-payer system would work.

On topic. As of last night 41 States had refused to turn over there voting logs over to the Trump dictatorship. If Barack Obama had done the same thing you people would have been screaming screaming screaming loudly rigging he's going to steal the election for Hillary. But no you think it's okay I don't. The states are responsible for managing their own elections you know that he read the Constitution give it a chance.

Second for the Mensa boy. A single-payer system would not stop me from getting a liver transplant.

Tell that to the people of Great Britain. Under their rules, you wouldn't even be on the transplant list.

It wouldn't be an expansion of medicare, it would a complete government takeover of healthcare.

Medicare as it is is inadequate for most people. That's why plans like Kaiser Permanente exist. They will disappear under single payer as well as your chance to get a new liver.

CS voter information that is public, generally speaking is name and address, age (not necessarily the full date of birth), some indication of activity. The parties themselves maintain party affiliation data which may be more detailed, and use the public data as well of course.

I believe you are mistaken that States provide the SSN or any part of the SSN. Maybe 20-30 years ago.

In states with closed primaries there may be information on which party the person is registered. In GA there is a notation if you requested a party-specific ballot, no more than that. You can get it on a CD for $250 if you want, and that's what Trump's commission is getting.

There is one civil fact that people seem to be overlooking in this: each State has the absolute right to conduct the elections in ANY manner as the State sees fit. A federal commission has, literally, no authority over it and their requests are exactly as a private citizen. The only leverage the feds have is if there is a Constitutional violation such as equal protection. A state does NOT need to justify its decision, but a Federal Commission absolutely does need to justify a request for anything beyond the publicly available information. This request is just another example of incompetence and ignorance, that seems to exemplify everything Trump's administration touches.

41 States Refuse Request for Voter Information

July 4
“Forty-one states have refused the Trump administration’s request for certain voter information,” according to a CNN inquiry to all 50 states.

“State leaders and voting boards across the country have responded to the letter with varying degrees of cooperation — from altogether rejecting the request to expressing eagerness to supply information that is public.”

So far, just three states — Colorado, Missouri and Tennessee — have shown a willingness to work with the commission.
Meanwhile, the Baltimore Sun reports the “election integrity” panel saw its first resignation: Maryland’s deputy secretary of state Luis Borunda (R).

I've actually work with voter data, full date of birth, party registration and election history, (the fact you voted in and election not how you vote) were part of the packet.

In my day you also got the full social security number, not just the last four digits. (It wasn't as sensitive back then as it is now).

I've actually worked with voter registration data so I think I will trust my own eyes rather than what you tell me.

good old gentle democracy minded James said...

Maybe you should trust what more than 41 states are telling you.

Commonsense said...

Maybe you should find out what those 41 states are selling to political campaigns and other entities.

good old gentle democracy minded James said...

If the states are that corrupt, we definitely need federal oversight.

Commonsense said...

You're implying it's against the law it is not.

In fact you voter registrations is public and can be surrendered upon demand by a media outlet or anyone else for that matter.

You have a ridiculous vision of how things ought to be instead of what it really is.

good old gentle democracy minded James said...

What is the "ridiculous version" of those more than 41 resistant states?

Commonsense said...

Well for one thing I find it amusing that you are for federal control of elections but you're against the states giving voter information to the Feds.

Or is it just one particular fed you're worried about.

Honest, decent, truthful Rev. said...

Not control. Oversight to keep them honest. Rules they must go by that any democracy loving person would affirm.

Commonsense said...

Not control. Oversight to keep them honest.

It's going to be fun watching you explain the diffrence between oversight and control.

Starting with this: If each state has it's own election rules which rules would you go by?

Also how are you planning to get around the fact the constitution specifically charges states with running elections and gives the federal government no role in running them?

wphamilton said...

30 years ago you might have seen more detailed personal information made public in voter registration, but today it's how I described it to you. It varies from state to state, but there is NO state that will provide SSN, DOB name and address. There is no legitimate reason for Trump's commission to have that data with association with a person's affiliation. That they even asked for it betrays the effort as amateurish. No experience, no idea how to conduct the project.

Sad to say, but that appears to be the norm with this administration.

Commonsense said...

I agree no state would provide the full SSN now. I've said as much.

Did you know that when I attended UF they actually posted final exam grades on a bulletin board by social security number?

They certainly would provide name, address and DOB and other basic demographics as gender and party affiliation. Otherwise, it would be useless to campaigns.

The Trump administration is looking for patterns of fraud. For example if a voter died in 2015 it seems rather strange he voted in the 2016 election.

Also, only citizens may vote and there is quite a bit of evidence immigrants registered illegally and voted.

That's something worth knowing.

good old gentle democracy minded James said...

Commonsense always thinks he can get the best last word even when he can't. Example:

Common said: "Also how are you planning to get around the fact the constitution specifically charges states with running elections and gives the federal government no role in running them?"

James says: Last time I looked the Supreme Court was part of the federal government, and it will not allow states to discriminate against black voters, just for one example.

Contrary to what you say, the constitution specifically charges states with running elections ACCORDING TO THE CONSTITUTION.

Big difference. Important difference.

opie said...

Also, only citizens may vote and there is quite a bit of evidence immigrants registered illegally and voted.

And maybe you can link us up where this evidence is since the data I have looked at, in person voter fraud is about as prevalent as your college degree....LOLOLOL

Commonsense said...

And maybe you can link us up where this evidence

As soon as you link up the evidence of Russian collusion.

Commonsense said...

James says: Last time I looked the Supreme Court was part of the federal government, and it will not allow states to discriminate against black voters, just for one example.

That only an example of them enforcing the 13th, 14th, and 15th amendments.

It has nothing to do with actually running the elections themselves, just that the states can't discriminate because of race.

If you notice any federal interference in the way the state runs an election is specifically spelled out in the constitution (For example the requirements to select presidential electors on the same date as set by congress) or via amendments (Women's suffrage and reducing the voting age to 18).

However outside those requirements spelled out in the constitution, the state may run election as they see fit. For example; states don't even have to run a popular election to select presidential electors, the state legislature may choose them directly as they did for the first 70 years of the country's existent.

The is no mechanism or authority in the constitution for the federal government to run an election for president all the way down to dog catcher. That is left to the states and counties in those states.

Commonsense said...

So James after you read all of that can you please show us part of the Constitution that says "the federal government shall have the power to run elections for the United States and to certify said results."

You're on the clock.
