Whom do you believe?

So, at the same time many on the left are running away from the Steele dossier, declaring that it could not have possibly been the trigger for the Russian/Trump collusion investigation; those who helped write the dossier, and those who published it are defending the report's legitimacy...

The question becomes, whom should you believe?

Do you believe BuzzFeed, who claims that the FBI considered it legitimate information, because they had been able to cross check it with other sources (including some inside the Trump organization)?

Or do you believe FBI deputy director Andrew McCabe who testified before congressional committees that as of December of 2017, that the dossier remains largely unverified?

Maybe had the dossier not included charges of prostitutes and golden showers, which even James Comey declared under oath to be salacious and unverified, it would have a bit more legitimacy. But to this date, we have been privy to the fact that many parts of it are flat out wrong... and so far we have not seen anything of substance from the dossier verified.

But that won't stop a lot of people from taking BuzzFeed at their word.

Thirty-two people have been slain in Puerto Rico in the first 11 days of the year, double the number killed over the same period in 2017. If the surge proves to be more than just a temporary blip, January could be the most homicidal month on the island in at least two years, adding a dangerous new element to the island's recovery from Hurricane Maria, its worst disaster in decades.

Trump Cancels London Trip

President Trump said he has “called off a planned ceremonial visit to Britain because he didn’t want to be associated with what he called a bad real estate deal in which the U.S. Embassy is being relocated from central London to ‘an off location,'” the Washington Post reports.

In a tweet, Trump “implicitly rejected reports that the trip — never announced but widely assumed to be in February — was being scrapped over concerns that the U.S. leader would be met with widespread protests.”

Said Trump: “Reason I canceled my trip to London is that I am not a big fan of the Obama Administration having sold perhaps the best located and finest embassy in London for ‘peanuts,’ only to build a new one in an off location for 1.2 billion dollars. Bad deal. Wanted me to cut ribbon — NO.

Trump-Branded Condo Tower Sues to Erase His Name

“There was a time when brassy letters spelling ‘Trump’ had money-making allure. But now the board of a 376-unit luxury condominium tower on Manhattan’s West Side is asking a court to declare that it has the right to yank President Trump’s name off the building if enough residents decide they don’t like his politics,” the AP reports.

Trump Signals Openness to North Korea Diplomacy

President Trump “suggested he has developed a positive relationship with North Korea’s leader despite their mutual public insults, signaling a possible new openness to diplomacy after months of escalating tensions over the rogue state’s nuclear program,” the Wall Street Journal reports.

Said Trump: “I probably have a very good relationship with Kim Jong Un. I have relationships with people. I think you people are surprised.”

World reacts to Trump's 'shithole countries' remarks
CNN 4 hrs ago

US President Donald Trump's complaints about immigrants coming to the US from "shithole countries" prompted condemnation from around the world.

In the US, Democrat and Republican lawmakers criticized Trump's comments as "divisive" and "unacceptable," while Haiti, one of the countries explicitly named by Trump, summoned the top US diplomat to discuss the President's remarks.

Trump's remarks come as Haiti prepares to commemorate eight years since a 7.0-magnitude earthquake killed hundreds of thousands of people and displaced many more.

As a result of the disaster, citizens of Haiti were accorded Temporary Protected Status, granted to individuals from countries where conditions such as war, natural disasters or political strife prevent citizens from returning safely.

Former Haitian President Laurent Lamothe said the "world is witnessing a new low today" and called Trump's remarks "totally unacceptable!"

"It shows a lack of respect and ignorance never seen before in the recent history of the US by any President," Lamothe tweeted.

Nepal, which became a Temporary Protected Status nation after an earthquake in 2015, said authorities were discussing their response to the matter.

The country's Foreign Minister Bharat Raj Paudyal told CNN "we are aware of President Trump's comments, and our ministry is discussing the matter."

On Twitter, former Mexican President and longtime Trump critic Vicente Fox said the US leader's mouth "is the foulest shithole in the world."

@Jaketapper offerd some clarifying reporting on what was actually said.

I have some clarifying reporting from a source familiar the meeting. I want to start by saying that this does not make what he said any more acceptable, but it might shed some light on it all.

The president did not refer to Haiti as a “shithole” country according to the source familiar with the meeting… though he DID say it about countries in Africa...

What happened, the source says, is there was a conflation of two different remarks by the president.

First, when talking about “temporary protected status” countries as part of the immigration deal it was mentioned that Salvadorans, Hondurans and Haitians have that status.

“Haitians?” the president said. “Why do we need more Haitians? Take them out” —- meaning take them out of the deal.

Then in a separate part of the conversation when they were referencing the diversity visa lottery, President Trump referred to people coming from Africa as coming from “shithole countries.”

Again, I’m not saying this is better. Just that this is what happened, per my source.

Bottom line, it's not as bad as the hyperventilating media was reporting but it still will make relations with some African countries problematic. Trump's problem was that he trusted the people in the room and he never should do that.

rrb, you claim that these hunches were NOT presented as fact?

"What reasonable observers are now concluding is that it is a bogus document improperly used to obtain a fisa warrant against the trump campaign."--balls

" when this was originally hatched as an investigation with an unvetted and unverified dossier." -- rrb

"After a year in FBI custody and their inability to validate the contents " --cs

All stated as fact, all "hunches" presented in the spirit of conspiracy theory.
